Volume 08.

Jack Juliar

Our series of BAINA BATHE explores the personal connection to one's daily bathing rituals. Seeking the moments where we allow ourselves to go a little deeper, indulge in time with self, and disconnect from the world beyond the bathroom door. Jack is an LA-based photographer whose intimate visual sensibilities draw us in. He shares with us how bathing is an act of cleansing and starting anew, what the experience means to him, and the refreshing indulgence of a guilty pleasure.

"There's connectivity and abundance involved in bathing. I've always felt it was a way to connect with Earth by using resources that nourish my body and allow positive energy and thoughts to flourish."

"I used to only bathe in the morning to start my day, and now I bathe at night in order to end my day."

- Jack Juliar

"I see bathing as a way of making way for new opportunities and to sluff of the excess and find my center.

I prefer lakes to the ocean. Growing up in Minnesota, something about the trees that provide shade through the intense sun, and the stillness of the water. It has always felt like a bit of magic."

"I feel most renewed when I'm telling stories - like they're almost escaping my mind and running free. It's like a bath for my mind to make room for new stories and experiences."

Bathing smells; like eucalyptus and Saint Johns Wart. Feels; silky and intense. Sounds; like the inside of your best friend's car cruising down the highway. Tastes; like lavender and raspberries. Looks; like a thunderstorm, refreshing, but aggressive.

"I feel most connected to myself during the afternoon when I am able to appreciate the sunlight coming through my window and spreading across the ripples on my bed linens."

Music for Displacement. Curated by Jack Juliar.
