With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry, Jesse Arifien has shaped stories through styling and creative direction, collaborating with global brands, celebrated publications, and personalities. After years spent in Los Angeles, she now calls Byron Bay home, where she balances her creative work with family life.

For Jesse, bathing is closely tied to time spent in the ocean—a practice shaped by upbringing, routine, and family life. Here, she reflects on how being in the sea offers clarity and calm, and how regular moments in the water help her reset, focus, and feel present.

"When it comes to bathing, I immediately think of the ocean. Being in the sea allows me to clear my mind and is a reset like no other. Whether it's swimming or surfing, or the in-between moments, I always feel a deep sense of gratitude and grounding.

I grew up near the ocean, and we have raised our kids near and in the sea all their lives, so it is more a way of life for us. A personal ritual currently is surfing after dropping my kids at school for a couple of hours which I look foward to every day."

"My heritage is Indonesian and Greek and I was raised near the ocean, so that could be why I am always drawn to the sea. My husband also grew up on a boat so on our family holidays we always feel called to coastal destinations.

Floating in the Mediterranean 6 months into my first pregnancy is one of my fondest memories. We travelled to southern Italy for our last trip before becoming a family of 3 and I remeber feeling a profound presence soaking up those last moments."
