Cassi Namoda

Informed by a life lived across continents, Cassi Namoda’s artistic practice is rooted in story. Born in Maputo, Mozambique, and now residing in Italy, her paintings fold personal memory with inherited histories—creating art where the imagined and the ancestral meet. With a cinematic eye and a bold, emotive palette, Namoda’s work traverses expressionism, surrealism, to explore identity, ritual, and the emotions of everyday life.
In this conversation, Cassi shares how bathing has evolved from a quiet act of self-care to a playful, deeply connected experience shared with her daughter, Arafah. From the sea of Sardegna to the seafoam green walls of their home, bathing is where memory, motherhood, and joy meet.

"For me bathing is a time of ritual and purification — now with Arafah, bathing has taken on new forms — and it’s actually all about play. Which is the best. I become younger every time!
It’s transformative!"

"Bathing was something I slowly introduced when Arafah was born. We waited to bathe her so she kept a lot of good probiotics to protect her newborn skin. It was a cold spring a few weeks later, and I took her for first bath outside in the sunshine and it was so tender and sweet - and gradually it just became more and more about love and play - and here we are today where anything related to water is something to conjure joy."

"Bathing is our place to unwind and get away, whether it be in the sea of Sardegna or at home in our sea-foam green bathroom. It’s a personal and human experience that we encounter everyday."
